The health ministry followed up on more than 61,903 cases after the surgeries were performed to ensure the quality of service provided to patients during the period from January to May 2023, read a statement by the official spokesman of the ministry Hossam Abdel Ghaffar.
Additionally, the ministry received 27,338 calls from waitlist patients during the same period through the dedicated hotline for the initiative, the spokesman added.
Abdel Ghaffar also said that the services of the presidential initiative are completely free of charge, including surgeries for the heart; bones; cataracts; tumors; cerebral catheters; heart catheterization; brain and nerves; kidney transplantation; liver transplantation, and cochlear implants.
In March, El-Sisi directed the Tahya Misr (Long Live Egypt) Fund to allocate EGP 1 billion ($32.3 million) for the presidential initiative.
Egypt launched many health initiatives in recent years, including the 100 Million Healthy Lives presidential initiative, which aims to raise awareness of reproductive health and family planning, and the Egyptian Women's Health Initiative, which seeks to detect cancer at an early stage.
Moreover, the government also launched the Mother and Fetus presidential initiative, and the Pre-Marriage Medical Test Initiative in parallel to campaigns that support the health of newborns and school students.
This is in addition to the detection of hereditary diseases and healthcare for the elderly.
