Egypt postpones evacuation flight from Dongola Airport in Sudan

The evacuation flight scheduled to evacuate Egyptian citizens from the Dongola Airport in Sudan on Tuesday has been postponed to a later date, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Monday in a statement.

However, the ministry reiterated the continuity of evacuation of Egyptians from Sudan from the Qustul and Arqeen border crossings.   

The ministry’s crisis room continues to receive phone calls, reports and inquiries from Egyptian citizens around the clock, seven days a week, via the following numbers:

Since the outbreak of the conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF)in mid-April, Egypt has succeeded in evacuating approximately 80 percent of its 10,000 citizens from Sudan ​

A week-long truce between the warring parties is set to begin at 19:45 GMT (9:45 PM Sudanese time) on 22 May. Fighting continued on Monday, however, with air strikes and anti-aircraft fire rocking the capital Khartoum.
