The team were scheduled to play Masry on 27 March in the League Cup round of 16.
In a statement released Wednesday on the club's official website, Ahly explained that the decision was made due to the congestion of first-team football matches, with a large number of players being called up to national teams during the upcoming period.
The decision comes amid a busy period for the club including domestic league, cup, and African Champions League commitments which has limited player availability. As a result, Ahly has prioritized other competitions over the League Cup.
Ahly contemplated fielding youth and reserve team players in the League Cup. However, many young players are currently out on loan and others are participating in age-group competitions simultaneously.
Consequently, Masry qualifies directly to the quarterfinals of the League Cup, conceding against Ismaily, who beat Ghazl El Mahalla in the round of 16.
