Abdullah Sami Qalalweh, a 25-year-old Palestinian, was shot and killed on Friday evening by the Israeli army at Huwwara military checkpoint to the south of Nablus in the West Bank, according to medical sources.

The Israeli military claimed that  Qalalweh "refused orders to stop" before firing warning shots into the air prompting a soldier to shoot him.

Israeli military raids in the West Bank have increased in recent weeks with the army raid on Jenin refugee camp last week killing 10 Palestinians.

The latest shooting brings to 36 the number of Palestinians killed by Israeli troops this year, including eight children and an elderly woman.

2022 was the deadliest in the West Bank since 2004, with nearly 224 Palestinians killed by Israeli forces.

Last week, a Palestinian gunman killed 10 Israeli settlers in a Jewish settlement in East Jerusalem.

Palestinian gunmen have killed 30 Israelis in 2022.
