Egyptian border guards and Sudanese infantry are participating in the exercise, which will last for several days, a statement by Egypt’s Armed Forces spokesperson said.

The first phase of the training included an exhibition of weapons and equipment used by border security to combat smuggling and infiltration, as well as lectures and practical exercises for both sides to exchange combat expertise.

The Egyptian army’s statement said that the Guardian of the South-2 is part of a series of joint exercises conducted by the Egyptian Armed Forces with other friendly countries to share expertise and enhance military cooperation.

This is the second year in a row for Egypt and Sudan to hold the Guardian of the South exercise. The first Guardian of the South drill was held in October 2021.
