During the inauguration, Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala El-Said said that Sir Magdi is a link between Egypt and the world and a symbol for millions of people worldwide.
Yacoub, 87, is a professor of cardiothoracic surgery at Imperial College London and is the founder of the Magdi Yacoub Institute at Harefield Heart Science Centre.
The famous surgeon is also the founder of the Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation, which was established in 2008 to provide free medical services for the less fortunate and to provide scientific, medical and nursing training.
Yacoub’s charitable foundation runs a heart centre in Aswan.
